Hoosier Presents: Oreo
Bikes + Death // Abraham GoettscheAbe and myself grew up together. Well, the teenage years until now. .He was the cool kid who could do tricks on his bike. I was getting out of RC cars and had just got my first trials bike. A green Kona XC frame that Brad Cromey converted for me. It had Magura HS-33's and a big tire in back. And UNI mini seat. I was so new to it all and had no idea how to ride..I remember meeting Abe for the first time, with a shaved head, a distinct farmer's tan and listening to Modest Mouse through his MP3 player. I was instantly jealous of his bike skills. .We'd be riding bikes, chasing girls, partying and all the other things that come with growing up in Albuquerque. him on his BMX, me on my trials bike and our other buddies on rollerblades and skateboards. many nights spent in my dorm, or his dads house or Bradys..It was a really great period of life. Met some amazing people, said goodbye to amazing friends due to suicide, car crashes and guns..One thing has always remained constant for us both: bikes. .Recently, back in town for a long weekend, I sat down with Abe to talk about these things. With only a morning free, we talked about life, death and bikes. You never truly know what someone is going through or has gone through. .Love ya Abe, keep on fighting brother.. Mental health, suicidal thoughts and alcohol addiction is a hard thing to battle. Dear Congo, I miss you..I wanted to introduce a project I’ve been working on with Story & Heart..Earlier this year Munta replaced David’s iPhone screen. I overheard bits of his story as I setup for my shoot. It resonated so much with me that I couldn’t *NOT* contact him. We got coffee, I pitched the idea and next thing I knew I was at his breakdance competition - being brought into his life..It’s amazing what you can do with three people, a bag of lighting, a coffee table and a few hours after work. It was quick, DIY, late at night and driven by our passion to share experiences..It’s a special opportunity to tell someone's story...THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS BEEN PART OF THIS. WE LOVE YOU ALL!.Director: Maxwell DuryeaDP: Robert CuadraProducer: David SingerEdit/Color: Robert CuadraSound:Robert CuadraStory: Maxwell Duryeawww.fjwestcott.com // @westcottlighting www.soundstripe.com // @soundstripemusicwww.filmconvert.com // @filmconvertwww.storyandheart.com // @storyandheart

Thanks, COVID.If you're like me, you might be exhausted by this year. You might also wonder - where did the year go?!.Early days in the pandemic I'd see friends teaching lots of yoga or filmmaking online, colleagues starting businesses and strangers genuinely worried about when they'd get their next haircut. .The problem was I felt the exact opposite. I felt lethargic, beaten down and to be honest, useless. Surrounded by friends, family and strangers doing great things and #crushingit and then there was me....fucking stuck..To make things worse, I had a cavity (turned out to be two) reminding me that COVID or not, it was marching onward. .On the journey back to New Mexico it all hit a crucible. Bored and carrying a restless mind full of thoughts, I started dreaming. Thoughts of making a short film about how it felt to not be essential, and well, this short film is the culmination of those emotions expressed through my vocation as a film director..Turns out, all these people in my life are doing important things and they are indeed, essential. I'm thankful for them now more than ever. .I would love it if you could pass along whatever you feel to those friends and family around you. if you're anxious about the future or have had a year like me, trust me when I say they will help you through it..Happy Thanksgiving to all humans. Be well:).Gratitude:.RJ Anthony for always saying yes to my ideas. Bringing ideas to Daniel Zollinger so he can make them look like they are in my head. Robert Cuadra for the wisdom and last minute help. Dr. Luffey for the emergency dental work AND for filming on your day off. Paul Jew for being that determined small biz owner you keep hearing about. DannyRay & Bosque Brewing for the delicious beer and a brilliant brewer. Seth Arseneau for inventing (cool) bikes for kids that have spinal conditions. Jimmy Charles for serving our country in Japan - and for filming this clip for me. Willie Chambers for his commitment to the next generation. My nieces for always wanting to make cool things for my films and in life. My sister for teaching the next generation of kids from her living room. My parents for being those grandparents that put family before themselves. Lastly, the Jess(i)e's for their unbridled love and support, always. .Director: Maxwell DuryeaDP: Daniel ZollingerAC: RJ AnthonyEdit: Maxwell Duryea + Robert CuadraVO/Colour: Robert CuadraScript: Maxwell Duryeaadditional footage: Robert Cuadra & Matt Fremsted.@rjanthony7 @zollingercinema @elcuad @mfremstad @jamescharles86 @ions82 @bigloonuh @jessrame
Seth makes things.Seth grew up on wheels. Anything and everything with wheels had his interest. His life would revolve around bikes until one day he had a freak accident on a motorcycle. Instead of letting it get him down he saw it as an opportunity to help innovate an overlooked area of cycling. He’s an inventor, entrepreneur and above all a good human doing good things.Director: Maxwell DuryeaDP: Justin HoltzenAC: RJ AnthonyEdit/Colour: Justin Holtzen
